3.2 BILLIONS emails and passwords leaked online. Is your info safe?
As stated in an article published by cybernews.com published on February 21, 2021 "[t]his does not appear to be a new breach, but rather the largest compilation of multiple breaches." In other words, some of the information released online was not necessarily new as some of the data released was hacked several years back, but it was compiled in a database where newly stolen information was also added.
Accounts used with Netflix, Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo (and more) were affected
Note that many accounts were impacted due to the fact that people often use the same email and password for all their online accounts (Please, don't do that, and if you do, act and use a different email/password combinations for your various accounts.)
Some WELI TECH recommendations
- Use a VPN: We recommends WeVPN, but other solutions do a great job too;
- Use a password manager: We use 1Password (great for business and families, particularly if you are in the Apple ecosystem), but other options such as LastPass could do the trick;
- Use Two-Factor Authentication: This practice requires your username, password, and another way (i.e. authenticator app) to log in your accounts.
